Diplomats from Iran and the United States said Sunday they could announce an agreement on a deal to curb Tehran’s nuclear program on Monday. The program would be curbed for the next decade in return for the lifting of sanctions by the U.S. and United Nations. The thorniest of the sanctions involves an arms embargo imposed on Iran in 2006. Iran says this is part of “nuclear-related” sanctions, but the U.S. and Europe fear lifting them—and giving Iran billions of dollars in newly available oil revenue and assets—would allow Tehran to expand its power even further across the Middle East.
