Georgia Engel, ‘Mary Tyler Moore Show’ and ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ Star, Dies at 70
BOWING OUT
Georgia Engel—star of the hit 1970s sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show and, later in her career, Everybody Loves Raymond—died on Friday at the age of 70, the New York Times reports. Her friend and executor, John Quilty, said the cause of her death hasn't been determined because she was a Christian Scientist, who didn't seek a diagnosis from doctors. Engel was twice nominated for an Emmy Award for her work on Mary Tyler Moore, which she joined in 1972, and received three Emmy nominations for her guest role as Pat McDougall on Everybody Loves Raymond. “She could get a laugh on literally every line you gave her ... I've never seen anything like it,” said Philip Rosenthal, the creator of Everybody Loves Raymond.
