Stephen Colbert called out President Trump for using a shameless new trick to avoid congressional oversight on his unpopular war with Iran.

NBC News reported on Monday that if Trump decides to re-start combat operations in Iran, he may call the attacks “Operation Sledgehammer.”

The previous name Trump has given to his war in Iran was “Operation Epic Fury.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced in early May that “Epic Fury” was over, but Trump has since hinted that the U.S. military may attack Iran again if the country’s leaders don’t agree to his peace deal.

The sole American cruise ship passenger who had tested positive for hantavirus and was being held in the biocontainment unit at the University of Nebraska Medical Center has now tested negative. Dr. Stephen Cornfeld told CNN on Wednesday that he has since been moved into the quarantine unit with 15 other passengers of the Dutch vessel MV Hondius. Cornfeld was among 17 American passengers who were airlifted from the Canary Islands on a repatriation flight. The hantavirus outbreak has killed three people and left several others sick after infections of the Andes strain of the virus broke out in April while the ship was in the southern Atlantic. The Andes strain of hantavirus, unlike other strains, is able to spread between people. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday that the likelihood of “broad spread to the United States is considered extremely unlikely at this time,” adding that “clinicians should be aware of the potential for imported cases.”

William Paul, the 33-year-old grandson of libertarian former presidential candidate Ron Paul, approached Lawler, also a Republican, about Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie’s primary election next week, according to a NOTUS reporter who had been talking with Lawler at the bar on Tuesday night.

Paul, the report says, told Lawler that a Massie loss would be the fault of “you people.”

A congressman who viewed Jeffrey Epstein files that are still redacted for the public says the Department of Justice is “covering up for Donald Trump.”

Nearly half a year after the president signed the law forcing the DOJ to release its files on the convicted sex trafficker, roughly 2.5 million documents remain sealed from public view, and many of the unsealed documents remain heavily redacted.

Dan Fordice, the son of former Mississippi Governor Kirk Fordice, died in a single-engine plane crash near the Louisiana border on Tuesday. Fordice, a veteran and “passionate warbird pilot,” crashed at the Tallulah-Vicksburg Regional Airport in Madison Parish around 3 p.m., according to the New York Post. The 66-year-old aviation enthusiast had served in both the U.S. Army and the Mississippi National Guard as an engineer and special forces officer, according to the Vicksburg Post. After his military service, Fordice founded a nonprofit for Purple Heart veterans called the Warrior Bonfire Program. The Commemorative Air Force, a nonprofit dedicated to maintaining and flying historic World War II-era combat planes, celebrated his legacy as a member of the organization in a statement. “The Commemorative Air Force is deeply saddened by the loss of Dan Fordice, a valued CAF member, who was currently serving on the General Staff (our Board of Directors), a passionate warbird pilot, and a lifelong advocate for American veterans and military history,” the statement reads.

The remains of the second U.S. Army soldier who went missing during a training exercise in Morocco have been recovered, the Army announced in a press release on Wednesday. U.S. Air Force pararescuemen, in coordination with Moroccan Civil Protection and military mountaineers, recovered the remains of Spc. Mariyah Symone Collington from a coastal cave near the Cap Draa Training Area on Tuesday, according to the Army. Collington, 19, from Taveres, Florida, was assigned to Charlie Battery’s 5th Battalion as an air and missile defense crewmember. “The loss of Spc. Collington is a profound loss for the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command,” said Brig. Gen. Curtis King. “Her recovery closes the search for our two missing Soldiers, but our commitment to caring for their Families, friends, and teammates continues.” Collington had been awarded the Army Service Ribbon for her service. Collington and 1st Lt. Kendrick Lamont Key Jr., 27, went missing on May 2 during the annual African Lion joint training exercise. Key’s remains were recovered on Saturday by a military search team.

Kouri Richins, who was convicted of murdering her husband and later writing a children’s book about grief, was sentenced on Wednesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The mother of three was accused of poisoning her husband, Eric Richins, with a fatal dose of fentanyl in his cocktail in 2022. She was found guilty of his murder in March after a jury deliberated for just three hours. The Utah native was convicted of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder, two counts of insurance fraud, and one count of forgery. The case drew more attention after it emerged that Richins had written a book titled Are You With Me just a year after her husband’s death to help children cope with grief. During the trial, the 35-year-old was accused of attempting to poison her husband multiple times, including an earlier attempt on Valentine’s Day with a fentanyl-laced sandwich. “She wanted to leave Eric Richins but did not want to leave his money,” said Brad Bloodworth, the Summit County prosecutor.

John Barbour, the creator and co-host of NBC’s reality show Real People, died Sunday at 93 from natural causes in his Las Vegas home, a family spokesperson announced. The series, filmed before a live studio audience, aired from 1979 to 1985 and profiled everyday Americans with unusual jobs, talents, and hobbies. Born in Toronto in 1933, Barbour dropped out of high school at 15 after his father abandoned the family, then immigrated to the U.S. in the 1950s. He broke into the mainstream as the first host of KABC-TV’s AM Los Angeles, where he won his first Emmy. Barbour later picked up four more Emmys as critic-at-large for Los Angeles’ KNBC and made scripted appearances in Get Smart, Sanford and Son, and Breaking Bad. He later pivoted to writing, releasing his 2019 autobiography Your Mother’s Not A Virgin: The Bumpy Life and Times of the Canadian Dropout Who Changed the Face of American TV! Barbour is survived by his wife, Sarita, and their son, Christopher.

FBI Director Kash Patel has been accused of “padding the stats” to inflate his arrest accolades at the bureau.

Law enforcement sources told MS Now that Patel’s boasts that he has nearly doubled arrests—something he touted during his tumultuous testimony before senators this week—are only possible because he changed how arrests are counted.

The drug counselor tied to Matthew Perry’s fatal overdose was sentenced Wednesday to two years in federal prison. Erik Fleming, a former film producer and addiction counselor, became the first of five defendants to plead guilty in connection to the Friends star’s 2023 ketamine overdose at his Los Angeles home. Fleming, 56, admitted to one count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death. Prosecutors said Fleming introduced Perry to alleged dealer Jasveen Sangha—dubbed the “Ketamine Queen”—just two weeks before the actor died. Fleming then allegedly bought ketamine from Sangha, marked up the price, and resold it to Perry’s assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa. Fleming immediately cooperated after investigators contacted him in 2024 and provided information about Sangha’s operation. Still, prosecutors argued his background as a drug counselor made the crime especially disturbing, given Perry’s “well-documented battle with drug addiction,” according to the sentencing memo. The final defendant to receive their sentencing for their role in Perry’s death is Iwasma, who admitted to injecting Perry with the fatal dose of ketamine. The former assistant is expected to be sentenced on June 10 and could face up to 15 years in prison.

White House officials are considering a plan for President Donald Trump to issue 250 pardons to mark 250 years since America’s independence this summer.

That’s according to a new report by the Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter. It said the president could make the announcement on June 14, his own 80th birthday.

Sharon Stone’s family has suffered another tragedy. “Mike Stone, My oldest brother, Has passed away. Following an extended illness,” she revealed in a Wednesday Instagram post. “We wish him peace. Sharon, Roan, Laird & Quinn 🥰,” she added, signing the names of her three children. Mike, age 74 at his death, was a musician and actor. He was known for his roles in the 1990 drama End of the Night and the 1995 action film The Quick and the Dead, which he starred in alongside his sister. He also made appearances in Eraser, Malevolence, One Tough B-----d, and, most recently, the 2022 film Destinos Oposto. He also starred in three episodes of the daytime soap The Bold and the Beautiful. This is just the latest in a string of deaths that have afflicted the Stone family. Their matriarch, Dorothy Stone, died last spring at age 91. Her younger brother, Patrick Stone, also died in February 2023 at age 57 after suffering from a heart attack that happened nearly a year after the death of his 11-month-old son.

Conservative Supreme Court justices are being slammed as hypocrites for ruling on election cases so close to Election Day—something they have admonished lower courts for doing in the past.

The high court first invited such criticisms when it ruled on April 29 that a congressional map in Louisiana was a racial gerrymander, upending an election in which early votes were already being cast and effectively eliminating a Black-majority district.

Louisiana’s Republican Gov. Jeff Landry quickly suspended the state’s House primary elections, which were scheduled for May 16, so the state could draw up a GOP-friendly congressional map first.

A new analysis published Tuesday from the Congressional Budget Office predicts that the “Golden Dome” weapons system will rack up an estimated $1.2 trillion bill for the American taxpayer over the next 20 years.

Discovery Channel reality star Daddy Dave has been arrested after allegedly stalking an unnamed victim. Real name David Comstock, the 53-year-old Street Outlaws race car driver was booked in Steuben, New York, on Wednesday morning, TMZ reports. His alleged crimes are misdemeanor stalking and misdemeanor criminal tampering, the outlet reports. Tampering involves messing with other people’s property to the extent that it causes them significant inconvenience. Comstock has been featured on the Discovery Channel show since it first aired in 2013. He married his wife, Cassie, the same year. The show came off the air in 2019. The Daily Mail reports that the father of three is currently being held without bail. The newspaper notes that his reputation grew thanks to his proficiency behind the wheel and that he is well known in Oklahoma racing circles, having started driving at just 16. French actress Claire Maurier died in France at age 97. Her husband Jean-Renaud Garcia announced her death on May 3 to French media, which did not report a cause. The star, born Odette Michelle Suzanne Agramon, was best known for her role in Amélie, one of the highest-grossing French films in America. Maurier began her career early in French theater and movies, choosing to attend the Bordeaux Conservatory at age 16. She played roles in Lysistrata in 1954, and later in Tennessee Williams’s Sweet Bird of Youth and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. She got her big break in François Truffaut’s 1959 New Wave film The 400 Blows, where she played the neglectful mother of a troubled Parisian boy. Maurier continued working in the French film industry, appearing in films such as La Cuisine au Beurre in 1963 and La Cage Aux Folles in 1978. Her most famous role was as a bistro owner in the 2001 French breakout Amélie. Most recently, she starred in the French television series La Famille Katz. She is survived by her husband, Jean-Renaud Garcia.

Scientists may have just uncovered 10,000 more possible planets lurking beyond our solar system. A new study published by research database ARXiv used artificial intelligence and data from NASA’s planet-hunting TESS satellite to identify thousands of new exoplanet candidates orbiting distant stars across the Milky Way. The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite—better known as TESS—has already helped discover nearly 900 confirmed exoplanets and contributed to the catalog of more than 6,000 known planets outside Earth’s solar system. Scientists search for planets by tracking dips in starlight, which can signal a planet passing in front of its host star. This latest study dramatically expanded that search by combing through data tied to roughly 83 million fainter stars that had largely gone unexplored. The newly identified worlds are still considered candidates until officially verified, but researchers say the findings could significantly speed up the hunt for potentially habitable planets. According to NASA Exoplanet Science Institute, scientists are still working to officially confirm nearly 8,000 additional exoplanet discoveries.

All 11 people on board a small plane that plunged into Bahamian waters off the coast of Florida on Tuesday have been rescued, officials said. The Beechcraft 300 King Air turboprop plane crashed around 12:05 p.m. about 50 miles east of Florida’s Vero Beach Regional Airport, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said. The aircraft had departed from Marsh Harbour Airport in the Bahamas and was en route to Grand Bahama International Airport in Freeport. Before the crash, the pilot declared an emergency before losing communication with air traffic officials, according to the Bahamas’ Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority. The search and rescue operation involved the U.S. Coast Guard and multiple Bahamian agencies. The U.S. Coast Guard said it launched a C-27 aircraft to search for the downed plane. Everyone aboard was rescued and brought in for medical evaluations, the Coast Guard said. The cause of the crash remains unknown and will be investigated, the FAA said.

Federal aviation authorities are probing safety concerns surrounding Donald Trump’s plans to build a towering “triumphal arch” beneath one of the busiest airspaces in the country.

The Department of the Interior requested a formal study of the D.C. project, loosely modeled on Paris’s “Arch de Triomphe,” after realizing the almost 280-feet-tall structure will stand just two miles from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, CNN reports.

The airport, which handles 900 flights a day, and its surrounding airspace have witnessed a number of high-profile collisions and other incidents over the years, including last January’s crash between a commercial jet and a military helicopter that killed all 67 people aboard both aircrafts.

The bodies of three young women have been recovered from the sea hours after they attended a student nightclub event. Police were called to the seafront shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday and discovered three bodies—believed to be women in their late teens to early 20s—in the English south coast city of Brighton, according to the Daily Mail. A Coastguard source told the paper the trio were “fully clothed” when retrieved from the water. An American who was not aboard the cruise ship hit by the hantavirus outbreak is feared to have contracted the virus.

The man, who is from Winnebago County, Illinois, is thought to have become infected after exposure to rodent droppings while cleaning out a residence, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

“Typically, we see it in cases like this one, where someone was cleaning an area where rats may have dwelled, and it may have aerosolized the either urine or feces from the rat that contain the virus,” Saint Anthony Hospital Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Alfredo Mena Lora, said, according to ABC7.

A Detroit man who had been on the run for more than 30 years after allegedly killing his rock singer friend has been arrested. Richard Werstine, also known as Joseph Alan Stavros, 56, was detained at a dog park in Panama on suspicion of the September 1993 murder of Rodney Barger, the former frontman of notorious hardcore band Cold as Life. Werstine had already been arrested on suspicion of shooting Barger in the head while his roommate slept in their Detroit home on Sept. 15, 1993, but he failed to appear at his trial. An arrest warrant was issued in June 1994, but the suspect has managed to evade capture until now. The U.S. Marshals Service said Werstine had been arrested multiple times over the years but avoided detection by using various aliases. When the fugitive was tracked down to the Central American country, authorities found him in possession of fake IDs. He was identified following fingerprint analysis. Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Jimmy Allen said Westein’s arrest brings closure to his victim’s family, but also “demonstrates our promise to pursue those who think they can prey on the members of our communities without being held accountable.”

President Donald Trump was hit with another brutal economic measure on Wednesday, as wholesale prices posted the largest monthly increase in more than four years.

It comes as Americans have become increasingly frustrated with the president over the higher cost of living in the U.S. as the Iran war drags on, driving up prices closer to home.

Wholesale prices rose 1.4 percent in April, well above the 0.5 percent economists had expected and double the 0.7 percent increase seen in March, according to the producer price index (PPI). It was the largest monthly increase since March 2022.

President Donald Trump spent an estimated $73 million on a spectacular piece of “political theater” that has so far turned out to be a complete flop.

The president announced, within only eight days of retaking the White House last January, he’d be turning Guantánamo Bay into a deportation processing center, which would hold up to 30,000 migrants targeted in his nationwide immigration crackdown.

More than a year later, the site is basically empty, according to a Wednesday report by CBS News. The outlet found that as of May 11, the military base is currently housing only six migrants, with just 832 transferred to the site since Trump made his pledge.

Judges across the country are overwhelmingly rejecting President Donald Trump’s hopes to indefinitely detain immigrants as part of his mass deportation plans.

Analysis from Politico found that there have been more than 10,000 examples of federal judges ruling against ICE’s controversial mandatory detention policy, compared with just 1,200 cases in which they sided with the Trump administration.

Judges are also routinely voicing their frustrations with the Trump administration for continuing to detain people suspected of living in the country illegally without the possibility of release on bond or an opportunity to plead their case, even after being repeatedly rebuffed in court.

A Maryland-bound passenger plane was forced to divert to Oklahoma with a cracked windshield. Southwest Airlines Flight 2665 took off Monday from Albuquerque International Sunport in New Mexico for Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, but didn’t make it, the Federal Aviation Administration said. The FAA confirmed to USA Today that the Boeing 737 had instead touched down at Tulsa International Airport in Oklahoma around an hour into the journey. KRQE heard from passenger George Gonzales, who said, “They mentioned... nothing struck the aircraft, it was just the windshield started cracking, and then it just exploded, so credit to the pilots for landing the plane and getting us down safely.” In a statement ot the network, Southwest said, “The flight landed uneventfully and Customers were reaccommodated to Baltimore on another aircraft. We appreciate the professionalism of our Flight Crew. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees.” A replacement flight took place later that night, Business Insider reported.

Kanye West has been ordered to pay a six-figure settlement after a jury ruled that he was liable for copyright infringement. The rapper, now legally known as Ye, used an uncleared sample while playing a demo version of his song “Hurricane” at a listening concert for his 2021 album, Donda. The song featured a snippet of a “MSD PT2,” a one-minute instrumental created by Khalil Abdul Rahman, Sam Barsh, Dan Seeff, and Josh Mease. The group of musicians filed the lawsuit after the version of “Hurricane” featuring the sample was played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia in July 2021. A Los Angeles federal jury ruled that West did infringe the copyright of “MSD PT2,″and that the rapper was personally liable for $176,153. The jury also awarded damages of $176,153, $41,625 and $44,627 against three of the rapper’s companies, amounting to a total verdict of $438,558. A spokesperson for West declared that the outcome was a “failed shakedown” as the plaintiffs were originally seeking $30 million in damages. The version of “Hurricane” with the “MSD PT2” sample did not end up on the final album version of Donda.

More than 1,700 passengers are being held aboard a cruise ship after a suspected norovirus outbreak. French authorities on Wednesday ordered passengers and crew to remain onboard the Ambassador Cruise Line ship after it docked in Bordeaux. Health officials said around 50 people have reported symptoms consistent with the highly contagious stomach bug, while a 90-year-old British passenger has died. The ship had departed the Shetland Islands on May 6 and made stops in Belfast, Liverpool, and Brest before arriving in Bordeaux, where it was scheduled to continue on to Spain. Authorities have directed all passengers and crew to remain on the vessel while laboratory tests are conducted at a hospital to determine the cause of the illness. Norovirus is a highly infectious form of gastroenteritis that triggers vomiting and diarrhea and can spread rapidly in close-contact environments such as cruise ships. It comes amid heightened concern over recent infectious disease incidents at sea after the hantavirus outbreak on board a Dutch-flagged vessel last month. The virus killed three passengers, while dozens more were evacuated after showing symptoms.

James Comey says President Donald Trump is crazier than ever, as his late-night Truth Social posts get weirder and weirder.

Comey, the former FBI director under Barack Obama who was later fired by Trump, appeared on The Source with Kaitlan Collins on CNN on Tuesday evening as Trump targeted his political opponents in a barrage of wild posts.

During the meltdown, Trump peddled conspiracies about the Hillary Clinton email investigation, which Comey investigated. He was fired in May 2017 by Trump for allegedly mishandling the case and now sees himself at the center of a Department of Justice indictment that he considers a revenge plot for his criticism of Trump.

A small plane plummeted onto a highway and came within feet of crushing a family of four heading home from a Mother’s Day hike. The Cessna C150, with only its pilot aboard, dropped onto U.S. 80 in Superior, Arizona, just before 1:30 p.m. local time Sunday after losing power moments after departing Superior Municipal Airport, the New York Post reported. Kristal Ewing, whose dashcam captured the orange-and-white aircraft hurtling toward her truck, can be heard exclaiming, “Oh my God, why is he so low?” before her husband swung the family’s vehicle onto the median—parking them right under the wing as the plane bounced along the deserted highway toward Mesa, Arizona. It then clipped a roadside sign, almost flipped forward, and skidded to rest on the central reservation. The Ewings’ truck escaped with just a scuff from the propeller, and the pilot walked away unhurt. “This could have ended so much worse, but I’m just really thankful that we were all able to walk away. Everyone, even the pilot, was OK,” Ewing told AZFamily. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

Analysis from The Wall Street Journal found that the 79-year-old president has posted at least 8,800 times on Truth Social during his second term so far, with the content ranging from deranged attacks and AI-generated slop to spreading conspiracy theories.

Trump, who has a habit of falling asleep during official White House events, has also gone on Truth Social blitzes and shared at least a dozen posts between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. ET a total of 44 times since last January.

Donald Gibb, best known for playing the beefy but dimwitted Ogre in the Revenge of the Nerds franchise, has died at age 71. Gibb’s son, Travis, told TMZ that his father was surrounded by family when he died from health complications on Tuesday in his Texas home. A cause of death has not been revealed, but it is reported that Gibb was suffering from a long-lasting health condition, and his death was not sudden. The actor played the frat-boy character Ogre three times, including in the 1994 TV movie Revenge of the Nerds IV: Nerds in Love. His massive physique led to him playing other imposing characters during his career, including a starring role alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme in 1988’s Bloodsport. Gibb also featured in the HBO show 1st and Ten and had small parts in Seinfeld, The X-Files, and The A-Team. Speaking to the Youngstown Studio podcast in April 2025, Gibb said the love he continued to feel from fans of the Nerds films saved his life. “After my divorce, I did a [fan] convention and it was like getting back on the horse,” he said. “All these people are just wonderful.”

Former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem shot back after a Democratic senator mocked her for having shot dead a disobedient puppy.

Noem, fired from the department in March after 13 scandal-ridden months, was quick to reply after Minnesota’s Tina Smith trolled her on X with a photo of herself cuddling a small dog and the caption: “Don’t worry buddy, Kristi Noem isn’t around anymore.”

“Oh, but I am,” the former DHS chief wrote, before adding, debatably, “I love puppies.”

The Department of Justice could hand President Donald Trump a taxpayer-funded windfall before a judge has a chance to decide whether to throw out his $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service.

Trump, his sons Don Jr. and Eric, and the Trump Organization family business sued the IRS in January over tax returns that were leaked to the press by an independent contractor during the president’s first term in office.

But given that Trump oversees the IRS, the judge in the case has ordered both sides to submit briefs by May 20 laying out the legal arguments for why they’re really on opposing sides. If the court finds they’re not parties to a genuine conflict, the lawsuit could be thrown out.

Plans to build a huge Trump Tower in an upmarket Australian resort have fallen through, with developers blaming the project’s failure on the “toxic” Trump brand.

Construction on the 91-story tower at Queensland’s Surfers Paradise—advertised as the tallest building in Australia—had been due to start in August. Eric Trump, President Donald Trump’s son, posted a mocked-up image of the tower in February.

CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss is planning to let Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil loose on the network’s 60 Minutes show as part of a major shake-up of the newsmagazine.

Weiss, who has turned CBS News into a more Trump-friendly network during her tenure, is plotting major changes to 60 Minutes by “opening it up” to the wider news division and allowing other anchors to appear beyond its usual correspondents, sources told the New York Post.

As well as adding Dokoupil—whose promotion to the evening news slot has been a gaffe-filled ratings disaster for the network—to the roster, other CBS News correspondents such as Matt Gutman are also expected to be given new roles within 60 Minutes. One of the show’s current contributing correspondents, Norah O’Donnell, is also being awarded more airtime next season.

FBI Director Kash Patel took it outside—and onto social media—after being grilled about his drinking during an angry Senate hearing.

Patel, whose job is said to be on the rocks, appeared punch-drunk after Sen. Chris Van Hollen, a Maryland Democrat, hit him with reports of excessive drinking and unexplained absences.
