Baton Rouge police said Sunday that the two Louisiana State University football players who killed an 18-year-old boy Saturday likely acted in self-defense during an attempted robbery, The Advocate reports. The incident occurred Saturday afternoon when the two players—running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and linebacker Jared Small—tried to sell an electronic item in a dangerous area north of Baton Rouge, police spokesman Sgt. L'Jean McKneely said. Eighteen-year-old Kobe Johnson allegedly attempted to rob the men at gunpoint, causing one of the players to pull out his own gun and fire at Johnson multiple times. The pair called police and remained on the scene until cops arrived. They were later released without arrest, and the case is now expected to be sent to the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney's Office as a self-defense shooting.
