During their interview last week, Jimmy Kimmel left Kanye West speechless when he brought up the rapper’s 2005 declaration that George W. Bush “doesn’t care about black people.” When the host asked, “It makes me wonder what makes you think that Donald Trump does, or any people at all?” his guest sat silently for several seconds without answering. Days later, West pushed back on the idea that he was “stumped” by the question, tweeting, “Let me clarify the click bait. I wasn’t stumped. I wasn’t given a chance to answer the question.” Now, in a new interview with The Daily Beast, Kimmel has responded to the controversy. “I felt that his silence answered the question in some ways,” Kimmel said this week. “And I also know that if Kanye wanted to continue on a subject then he is not shy about continuing on that subject.” He added, “I think it’s a question that I hope he will answer eventually. But to force an answer out of somebody isn’t necessarily the way to go.” — Matt Wilstein
