Roy Orbison left us too soon, but we’re lucky that in his wake he left a large catalog of music for us to lose ourselves in. With his incredibly rich voice and songs as dark as the trademark sunglasses he never seemed to take off, Orbison served as the deep emotional waters most rock music of his era simply splashed on top of.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Orbison’s signing to MGM Records, where he crafted 11 studio albums and 27 singles. In celebration, Universal has teamed up with Orbison’s family to release a box set of these recordings with bonus tracks, The MGM Years. Alongside this, they’re also dropping a never-before-released studio album, One of the Lonely Ones, from which this song, “Sweet Memories,” hails.
