Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak ordered further navy and coastguard search and rescue efforts for boats carrying migrants stranded at sea on Thursday. In a statement posted on social media, Nahib said he directed the "Royal Malaysian Navy and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency to conduct search and rescue efforts for Rohingya boats. We have to prevent loss of life." The prime minister's order follows the announcement that Malaysia and Indonesia have agreed to provide temporary shelter to thousands of Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants stranded at sea by human traffickers.
