House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) on Sunday questioned whether a controversial new Trump campaign advertisement is “productive” as congressional Republicans and Democrats continue to negotiate on re-opening the federal government on day two of the shutdown. “I don’t know if that is necessarily productive,” Ryan said on CBS’ Face the Nation. The campaign ad criticizes Democrats for opposing President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, and at one point accuses Democrats of being “complicit in every murder committed by illegal immigrants.” Republicans and Democrats remain at an impasse over the shutdown, with neither side appearing ready to budge.
