Report: Mueller Sought Gates’ Help for Collusion Probe

Investigators were reportedly less focused on having Gates testify against Paul Manafort than they were on seeking his help with the collusion investigation.

Special counsel Robert Mueller reportedly sought ex-Trump campaign adviser Rick Gates’ help last year as part of his investigation into possible collusion between Trump associates and Russian operatives. According to CNN, Mueller’s team “didn’t need [Gates’] cooperation” to testify against Paul Manafort, his ex-business partner and the former Trump campaign CEO, and investigators were more focused on the collusion aspects. Gates has already agreed to cooperate with Mueller and has pleaded guilty to two criminal charges.
