A crane loading fuel onto a barge in the Galapagos Islands has collapsed, sinking the vessel and spilling hundreds of gallons of diesel into the sensitive ecosystem. Ecuador declared a state of emergency after Sunday’s accident, which was captured on video, which showed crew members diving off the barge to save their lives. Military and environmental crews raced to the scene and placed barriers and absorbent material to contain and absorb the fuel.
