The Brooklyn-based animal shelter from which Lena Dunham adopted a dog—which she recently surrendered to a facility in L.A.—disputes her claim that the pup was abused before she took him in and thus exhibited aggressive behavior. Several weeks ago, the Girls star spoke out about having to give up the dog, named Lamby, after “four years of challenging behavior and aggression.” She claimed the dog needed a caretaker “educated in a rescue dog’s specific trauma” because, she noted, “Lamby suffered terrible abuse as a pup,” rendering him “dangerous” in a typical home environment. However, a spokesperson for BARC Shelter told Yahoo News that, despite Dunham’s claims, the dog has no known history of abuse prior to his adoption; and the dog did not go through “multiple owners,” as the actress has previously claimed. “When she adopted the dog from us, it wasn’t crazy,” the spokesperson recalled. “I have pictures of the dog loving on Lena and her mom, which is weird if the dog was abused.”
