Gingrich Defends Palin’s ‘Death Panel’ Post

Sarah Palin made news again this week when she spoke up via Facebook slamming Obama’s “evil” health-care plan, which she says will include a “death panel” that will affect the elderly and disabled. Obama has already lashed back against the health-overhaul rumor mill, but now former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, appearing on This Week With George Stephanopoulos, is defending Palin by questioning whether we want to leave health-care decisions to the government.

Graham: ‘Let’s Not Rumsfeld Afghanistan’

It’s a bad sign when a member of your political party uses your name as a pejorative verb. But that’s what happened on Face the Nation, as Lindsey Graham, arguing for increasing troop levels in Afghanistan, cautioned Democrats to “not Rumsfeld Afghanistan.” No word on whether Donald Rumsfeld wants to “Mike Tyson” Sen. Graham.

Hillary Feels Need to Say “I’m Not Exactly a Shrinking Violet”

Was it Peggy Noonan writing on July 17 that “ she got rolled” by Obama that’s helped propel Hillary Clinton back into the spotlight? It’s hard to say, but Clinton—to say nothing of her husband—has scored some big wins of late. Appearing on Fareed Zakaria GPS, the secretary of State paints a rosy picture of relations between the State Department and the White House, but takes a moment to remind us all that when it comes to politics, she’s “not exactly a shrinking violet.”

Howard Kurtz Slams Dana Milbank’s Sorry Attempt at Humor

Comedy sure looks easy, doesn’t it? That appears to have been the thought of Dana Milbank and Chris Cillizza, who last week got into some trouble over a truly unfunny video about the beer summit that was posted on TheWashingtonPost.com. (Lowlight: Milbank suggesting Hillary Clinton should be served a bottle of ‘Mad Bitch’ beer.) On Reliable Sources, Kurtz takes the duo to task, saying, “I’m all for having some fun with the news, but journalists have to be careful about stepping over that line.”

McConnell: Attacking Town-Hall Goers a Sign of ‘Weakness’

A number of Democrats have spoken up about the disruptions at health-care town halls across the country. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs pointed to some in the GOP who are bragging about the unrest, and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) charged outright that they are being “ orchestrated.” While the verdict is still up in the air, Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell fired back on Fox News Sunday, calling attacks on the protesters a sign of “weakness.”

Buchanan Bemoans Bubba’s Triumph, Eleanor Bemoans Buchanan

Bill Clinton’s mission to North Korea, in which he secured the release of Laura Ling and Euna Lee was a big success, right? Not really, according to Pat Buchanan of The McLaughlin Group. Buchanan argues that Kim Jong Il has “exploded an atomic bomb, fired missiles at us, said the South Korean armistice is all kaput” and what happens? He gets an audience with a former president. As you can imagine, Eleanor Clift has a slightly different take.

North Korea Ready for Change?

National Security Adviser James Jones takes a very non-Buchanan position on Bill Clinton's recent trip to North Korea on Fox News Sunday, saying that Kim Jong Il appears to still be in charge, and that the country wants to improve relations with the U.S.
