The United Nations estimates that 12.3 million individuals live in forced labor worldwide, and about 70 percent of them are women or girls trafficked into sex slavery. Sunitha Krishnan is the founder of the Indian anti-trafficking organization Prajwala, who survived gang rape to rescue other women and children from lives of forced prostitution. Shoma Chaudhury is the managing editor of Tehelka, a crusading Indian newsmagazine that has published incisive investigations of the sex-trafficking industry. Dao Tuyet Lien broke free from forced labor in Samoa to earn two college degrees, launch her own business, and start a family.
