The Muppet Show Goes Hipster
Did Kermit and Miss Piggy move to Brooklyn? They might not be decked out in skinny jeans or ironic T-shirts, but the Muppets get indie street cred thanks to their appearance in OK Goâs rendition of the âMuppet Show Theme Song.â The video arrives months in advance of the Muppets' return to the big screen in their self-titled flick, but if itâs any preview, weâre guessing Jim Henson would be proud. No word yet if Statler and Waldorf approve of OK Goâs hijacked performance.
Kermit Does The Daily Show
Itâs not easy being in showbiz for more than 45 years, and who better to discuss the policies that affect frogs than Jon Stewart? The Muppetsâ froggy star went on the late-night show in 2001, where he talked about romancing Miss Piggy, his Muppet buddies, and, of course, frog rights. Watch things get awkward between the Comedy Central host and the puppet star when they broach the topic of pet frogsâhard hitting for sure.
How You Doinâ, Miss Piggy?
Though Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog have been together for decades, no amount of affection ever seems to be good enough for the swine. In need of some relationship guidance, Miss Piggy made a cameo on The Wendy Williams Show for advice on getting Kermit to give her a diamond ring. When the discussion came to Tiger Woodsâs 2009 scandal, Miss Piggy didnât mince words, telling Williams she would threaten Kermit with physical violence if he ever cheated on her. Those Muppets sure know how to stay relevant!
Kermitâs Musical Return to New York
Kermit the Frog made a decidedly melancholy showing in LCD Soundsystemâs video for âNew York, I Love You but Youâre Bringing Me Downââmelancholy at least compared with his Big Apple debut in The Muppets Take Manhattan. In the bandâs 2007 release, the worldâs most famous frog makes his way around the cityâs landmarks while lamenting its changes (perhaps since his great Muppet adventure in the 1980s). Kermit lip-syncs sad lyrics like âYouâre wasting my time, our records all show youâre filthy but fine,â before the ultimate tragic reveal: the puppeteer controlling Kermit gets up and walks off screen with the frog in tow.
The Muppets Keep Fishinâ
Hugh Hefner, Hurley from Lost, and Elisha Cuthbert might have made memorable cameos in Weezerâs work, but nothing comes close to the musical talent of Animal and Gonzo. The entire Muppet gang takes over the bandâs video for âKeep Fishinâ,â complete with a puppet-human romance between drummer Patrick Wilson and Miss Piggy. Kermit and his crew return to their old shenanigans for the cameoâMiss Piggy steals the microphone from frontman Rivers Cuomo, and Beaker gets set on fire (so typical)âwith added head banging for good measure. Could a Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem reunion be on the horizon?
