It's all getting a bit Scooby-Doo at this stage, but behold the Jubilee Crystal Diamond, pictured here being delivered to the Tower of London yesterday by Bruno Peek, who rejoices in the unlikely title of Pageantmaster of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacons.
More than 4,000 Diamond Jubilee beacons will be lit across the globe from Fiji to the Falklands (of course) in celebration of the Queen's 60-year reign, and the Queen will light the final beacon, in The Mall from a concert stage where Stevie Wonder, JLS, Sir Elton John and a host of other stars will have just finished performing in her honour on June 4.
This is where the Jubilee Crystal Diamond comes in. After the pop stars have finished paying their musical homage, HM will place the 'diamond' - actually made from crystal glass - into a special docking station, which will, the organizers assure us, somehow trigger the lighting of the last beacon nearby in The Mall.
It would be nice to think that a laser beam will shoot across London before exploding into flame, but, despite the stage craft, suspicions that a page with a box of matches and a cell phone might yet come into play remain.
Mr Peek, who organised a raft of Golden Jubilee beacons in 2002, delivered the crystal to the Tower of London yesterday evening.
He said: "Our aim was to light 2,012 beacons because 2,012 have never been lit before, but by the end of the night we will have over 4,000 - that's truly amazing. The beacons will be lit around the world on Monday, June 4 from Tonga to the Falkland Island and Malta to Kenya."
