Chalk this up as the first security breach of the young royal's life.
A pair of Australian radio DJ's impersonating the queen and Prince Charles - and to the accompaniment of some unconvincing corgi sound effects in the background - rang the hospital in which Kate Middleton is being treated and were given an update on her condition.
Mel Greig and Michael Christian, who present the Summer 30 show on Australian radio station 2Day FM, called the hospital in the early hours of this morning.
Mel asked to “speak to Kate please, my granddaughter”, with the receptionist asking her to hold.
A nurse then came on the line and proceeded to give the hoax caller a full update on Middleton’s condition.
The nurse said: “She's sleeping at the moment and she has had an uneventful night and sleep is good for her. She's been given some fluids to rehydrate her because she was quite dehydrated when she came in but she's stable at the moment.”
The male presenter, who was pretending to be Prince Charles, asked about his son William to be told he had left the hospital around 9pm.
The King Edward VII Hospital has confirmed that the conversation took place and said in a statement: “This was a foolish prank call that we all deplore. We take patient confidentiality extremely seriously and we are now reviewing our telephone protocols.”FULL TRANSCRIPT OF THE CALL

Sleep is good. She has been given fluids to rehydrate her."Queen": OK, I'll just feed my little corgis then. [Christian barks in the background pretending to be a corgi] When is a good time to come and visit her, because I'm the Queen so I need a lift down there. Prince Charles, Charles.Christian, pretending to be Prince of Wales: Mummy, is everything OK?"Queen": Oh wait my Charles, when can you take me to the hospital Charles?"Charles": When will it be alright to come down and see her? Maybe in the morning, if that's ok?Nurse: I would suggest that any time after nine o'clock would be suitable, because the doctor will be in in the morning, and will just be getting her freshened up in the morning.
