Who would win in a fistfight between pop superstar Justin Bieber and fictional King of the Iron Throne Joffrey Baratheon?
Too difficult of a question? Never fear, our new Tumblr obsession, Joffrey Bieber, lets both tow-headed annoyances live as one, together. The Tumblr page, which features photos and GIFs of the Game of Thrones’s character morphed with the head of tween heartthrob Justin Bieber, boasts the slogan: “Where fiction's biggest brat and real life's biggest brat become one!"
While many memes, GIFs and blogs have spawned from the hit series, none is as cleverly crafted or comical as this fan free-for-all platform:
One photo depicts a still of King Joffrey and then fiancée Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) from the popular HBO show, altered when Justin Bieber’s singing face, and three headset microphones—one for Bieber, Sansa, and a member of the Kingsguard—are added. The caption reads: “Joffrey Bieber featuring the backup vocals of Lady Sansa Stark and The Kingsguard!”
A meme depicts a pivotal moment in season one of the fantasy series, where “Bieber”—complete with a somber expression and bright red hipster glasses—stands over a victim about to be executed, accompanied by the text: “YOU BELIEB OR YOU DIE.”
Reinventing a fan favorite moment from the series, one GIF shows Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) delivering a hearty slap across the face to his nephew, with Bieber’s smiling face transforming into a blood-spewing mess, complete with glasses flying off his face, upon being smacked.
Game of Thrones, a book-to-screen adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire is half way through its third season on HBO, and Joffrey Lannister (Jack Gleeson), the bastard son of brother-and-sister lovers (yes, really) currently holds power over the Iron Throne of Westeros. A brat in every definition of the word, his uncle Tyrion describes Joffrey perfectly when he says, “We've had vicious kings, and we've had idiot kings... but I don't know if we've ever been cursed with a vicious idiot for a king!"
While the comparison between Joffrey and Justin may seem cruel, it may not be so farfetched. Other than the obvious similarities— height, hair, and general boyish physique—there are other assessments to be made. Bieber is chased and adored by thousands of screaming teen girls, while Joffrey makes teenage girls scream in terror (like when he placed his betrothed’s father’s head on a spike).
Joffrey has a golden crown perpetually attached to his tiny head, while Justin has a tattoo of a royal crown permanently inked on his chest. And they both have catchphrases: While one utters “Believe” to his loyal “Beliebers,” the other enjoys screaming, “The King can do as he likes!” and “Off with your head”—in so many words, to whomever he pleases.
