Updating your Facebook status and garnering followers on Twitter could get you VIP treatment at the airport from American Airlines.

American has partnered with Klout, a website and mobile app that tracks an individual's power in social media, to provide a complimentary free day pass to any of the airline's Admirals Club airport lounges to people with a Klout score of 55 or above.

What's a Klout score, you ask? It's a numerical value of 1 to 100 derived from a proprietary algorithm that measures the breadth and strength of a person's online social influence.

The social networks used in determining a Klout score are Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, LinkedIn, Instagram and Wikipedia.

To see if you rate, head to American's promo website and sign in with your Facebook or Twitter account. The behind-the-scenes action will instantly notify you if you qualify for a free pass, which you can print or download to a mobile device. If your score doesn't cut it, you're offered a $50 discount on an annual club membership.

The promotion runs through May, and the free pass must be used by July 31 at any of American's 37 worldwide Admirals Club locations. You don't even need to be flying American to use the pass, according to Klout.
