Is Cory Booker already running for President in 2016?

The Newark mayor who is heavily favored in New Jerseyâs special election to replace Frank Lautenberg in the U.S. Senate has already scheduled a major speaking engagement in Iowa in August.
According to the University of Iowaâs website, Booker, who has long been considered a rising star in the Democratic Party, is speaking at the University of Iowaâs student union on August 29 as part of âWelcome Back Week.â The speech will be just a little over two weeks after the primary election in Bookerâs Senate campaign where he is facing two incumbent Democratic congressmen, Rush Holt and Frank Pallone.
This wonât be the first time that the Newark mayor has reached out to Hawkeye State Democrats. In 2012, Booker spoke to Iowaâs delegates to the Democratic National Convention at a special breakfast held in Charlotte.
The University of Iowa did not return a call asking for comment. After publication, a Booker spokesperson said that the event was "not on his schedule."
