The Isabel Marant show got off to a jumpy start today, when the soundtrack literally jumped -- right at the crescendo of Kate Bush’s "Wuthering Heights" (That song is such a winner with the fashion pack that we all let out a collective sigh when it cut out).
Technical glitches such as these rarely happen during fashion week, given the level of the playing field, but it didn’t matter because Marant’s show always feels so laid-back. She embodies that particular French kind of insouciance that makes one want to shrug and say, "ça va." And so it continued -- with models unfazed, out came the hits: lace camis, frayed denim, flirty skirts, and short summer dresses with ruffles.
Marant’s style is intrinsically consistent, but this collection felt a little too safe. Regardless, the designer has such a dedicated following that those t-strap bow booties are sure to be everywhere come spring.
