Who Pays For Michelle Obama's Wardrobe?: Michelle Obama has become one of the world's biggest fashion icons, with her penchant for simple frocks and high-fashion cocktail attire by the likes of Naeem Khan, Jason Wu, Carolina Herrera, and more. But how exactly does Mrs. O. pay for her expensive taste when it is reportedly not being footed by taxpayers, nor are the outfits being borrowed. "Mrs. Obama pays for her clothing," FLOTUS' press secretary, Joanna Rosholm, said. "For official events of public or historic significance, such as a state visit, the first lady's clothes may be given as a gift by a designer and accepted on behalf of the U.S. government. They are then stored by the National Archives." The question remains, however, is how many of Obama's clothes are actually paid for versus gifted. The inaugural gown by Wu, for example, that Obama wore in 2009, was donated to the Smithsonian a little over a year later; it was listed as "gift of Jason Wu in honor of [the] first lady," proving that it was sent by the designer, rather than purchased. The same can be said of the blue Carolina Herrera gown she wore to the state dinner in February, as well as the gold Naeem Khan dress sported to the 2012 governors ball. [AP]
Scout Willis Speaks Out Regarding Topless Photos: Following in the footsteps of Chiara de Blasio, Scout Willis (daughter of Bruce and Demi Moore) has penned as essay for XOJane in light of her recent #FREETHENIPPLE Twitter campaign. In an article titled "I Am Scout Willis and This Is the Only Thing I Have to Say About Walking Topless Down the Streets of New York Last Week," the celebrity spawn talks about the criticism she's received for posting the topless photos and the message she's attempting to spread. "I am certainly not doing anything novel," she writes. "A group here in New York called Topless Pulp gathers in parks to read topless regularly, and the Free The Nipple campaign has been protesting for the same rights for the last four years. If my coming from a high-profile family could help spread their message, so be it. I am not ashamed of who I am. And for every nasty comment I received there were ten more of support, appreciation, and empowerment." [XOJane]
Lily Allen Calls Out Fat-Shaming Journalist: Outspoken British singer Lily Allen has never been one to stay quiet. Over the weekend, Allen called out Katie Hopkins, a writer for The Sun, via Twitter after Hopkins said she looked like a "short-a**e mother in big pants." The two spat back and forth, with Allen bringing up Hopkins' affair with a married colleague. Although Allen has since deleted most of the conversation, Hopkins has continued to retweet and produce new content. Will the fat-shaming ever end? [ELLE]
