3. OK Go Use Their Illusion
Alt-pop band OK Go is no stranger to single-take music videos with impressive choreography. In their latest, “The Writing’s on the Wall,” they take things to a new level with well-designed geometric optical illusions. The video was reported as requiring more than 50 takes to complete satisfactorily.
2. Rock Band Recital Fail
No, this isn’t an outtake from Freaks and Geeks. These middle schoolers launched into a cover Weezer’s “Undone (The Sweater Song)” when an equipment malfunction caused them to leave their performance—wait for it—undone.
Hopefully, the band will use the subsequent pity applause they received as fuel to keep the fire burning in their bellies as they prepare themselves for eventual rock stardom.
They should also get rid of their roadie before their next gig.
1. The Book of Mormon Comes to South Park
The animated town of South Park has seen more than its share of interlopers and invaders—elderly reckless drivers, hippies, Barbra Streisand in the form of a giant Mecha-Godzilla, the list goes on—but here, Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s beloved burg plays host to the Latter-day Saints from their Tony-winning musical The Book of Mormon.
In a delightful clip that honors both the TV show and play, Mormon missionaries sing “Hello,” Book’s opening number, as they ring every doorbell in South Park, preaching the Word to the likes of Butters, Big Gay Al, Cartman’s mom, and Jesus Christ Himself. It’s the answered prayers of Parker and Stone’s fans.
What makes it even more impressive is that one such fan, Simon Chong, is responsible for this clip. Chong has no affiliation with Parker or Stone, but that could very well change if they see this loving tribute to their work.
