Who are you looking forward to seeing and meeting at WITW Texas?

Diane von Furstenberg has been an original throughout her life – the wrap dress was her creation. She has championed women in countries where they are oppressed through Vital Voices. I admire her and hope to spend some time with her.

Who are you looking forward to seeing and meeting at WITW Texas?

I’m looking forward to meeting Dr. Jill Biden; I’ve never met her before and I appreciate all that she is doing for our military families. And I’m excited to catch up with my long-time friend Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, who is going to be on a panel with me. I am honored to get to share the story of a young woman from Afghanistan, and bring a spotlight to what is happening in her country.

What do you hope comes out of WITW Texas for you?

Lively discussions, inspiring stories and Texas hospitality! I am delighted that Tina Brown decided to bring the Women in the World Summit to our Lone Star State and am honored to serve as co-host with so many great women. During my time at the State Department, I was inspired and impressed by the courageous women and girls I met across the world and I am passionate about investing in women as a way of improving societies. A growing number of studies show that when you educate and economically empower women, you improve the quality of life for everyone in a community. I hope this Summit opens up the world to many Texas women and encourages them to find ways to get involved and support women around the world.

What else do you plan to do while in San Antonio?

I live right up the road in Austin, Texas, so I will be making a day trip to San Antonio for the Summit. I hope I have time to stroll along the beautiful River Walk – it really is the heart and soul of the city!

It is very hard to choose between so many wonderful and powerful women. I think I am excited to meet each one of them and learn a little about each one. I have to say that as a military spouse, I am excited to meet Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden.

What do you hope comes out of WITW Texas for you?

My hope is that I learn and that I can take something from each one of these powerful women. My hope is that as founder of EMHUSA, people understand more about what our military families go through day by day.

What else do you plan to do while in San Antonio?

I live in this lovely city. I will enjoy my day like I do daily in beautiful San Antonio.
