(Disclaimer: The footage you are about to watch is harrowing but the cute barnacle gosling that jumps from a 400-foot cliff made it just fine. It would be unbearable to watch without knowing that.)
As part of a new BBC nature series entitled Life Story, Sir David Attenborough narrates a tale of Greenland's barnacle goose, which nests high to avoid predators. The young goslings' first major life event is to cliff dive down to their parents, as was captured here by BBC cameras. The gosling's best chance at surviving the jump is to bounce off the cliff on its soft belly. According to the BBC's page for Life Story, the goslings aren't fed by their parents in the nest and have to make the jump in order to survive.
While this death-defying jump and fall would be terrifying for any human being, to say nothing about a baby goose, the Emperor Penguin still has it worse.
