In just two days, the video depicting a woman being harassed as she walks through the streets of New York has accumulated over 15 million YouTube views, raised awareness with men about what women endure on a daily basis, and depressingly, a barrage of rape threats and other negative comments from people who just don’t get why women aren’t flattered by strange men constantly commenting on their appearance.
Funny or Die stepped up to further elucidate the video’s point by making a parody. In it, a young man dressed in jeans and a T-shirt walks around New York City, but instead of being told to smile or that he’s beautiful, he gets “verbal street privilege”: he’s offered jobs and high fives, and gets carried around in a chair like a king.
Obviously, it’s an exaggerated version of reality, but let’s face it: if women deal with incessant harassment every day, men are treated like royalty by comparison.
