Mick Hucknall, the shock-headed singer of the British pop band Simply Red has confirmed the truth of a long standing rumour and admitted that, yes, he ‘probably’ has slept with over 1,000 women.

The singer made the admission in an interview with The Telegraph ahead of a world tour to mark the 30th anniversary of Simply Red’s formation next year.

Hucknall, who sold 60 million albums wih the band including two US number 1s, tells how he was brought up “mostly exclusively” by his father.

In 1985 he formed Simply Red and, with success and fame, came plenty of sexual opportunity.

The Telegraph’s writer Matthew Stadlen asks Hucknall if its ‘really true’ that he’s had sex with 1,000 women, to which Hucknall replies, “It probably is. I’ve not denied that but I never claimed it. I never bragged about it. I don’t keep count. I’ve no idea, but I would think over a 25-year period that’s probably reasonable to say. But do I want to say it? No. It’s not what makes me tick. I don’t put chips on the bedpost."

Pre-Aids, Hucknall says, he felt invincible, “It’s like kids in a candy store. You can’t believe it. There’s girls chasing you all the time – it’s incredible. When you’re 24 you don’t give a toss. You’re invincible. You can do anything. Your mind is set in a way that the world is just ready and you’re just going to take it all. You’re just going to have a grand time.”

Mick has now settled down with his wife Gabriella Wesberry, and their daughter Romy Hucknall was born in June 2007.

In other veteran British rocker news, Pink Floyd released a rather fine new album over the weekend, The Endless River, which they say will be their last.
