Online misogyny is nothing new, but awareness of it has really picked up steam in recent months with the Gamergate controversy and increased efforts to bring attention to the issue.

Women can find themselves in a perilous position when they express themselves online and on social media, as such expression is often met with a particularly toxic brand of misogynistic vitriol from the nameless, faceless inhabitants of forums like the YouTube comment section.

This video, courtesy of BuzzFeed, sees women whose job it is to be in the social media eye discuss their experience with harassment in YouTube comments.

Some of the comments on this very video actually demonstrate their point in a kind of twisted metastatement.
