One of the many magical technological advancements our omnipresent smart phones have literally put in the palm of our hands is the ability to take ultra-wide panoramic photographs. Standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon? No problem. Hold ’er steady, swing ’er wide, and you’ve got the whole expanse locked right into your magic communication device.
Smartphones do this by stitching a series of images together, using math and software to connect them into one long, seamless stretch. But the system is only so good—throw a curveball, or, say, a cat, in there and you wind up with something that is more a rip in the space-time continuum than a scenic vista.
