Prince Harry showed he has lost none of his crowd-pleasing abilities as he received a rock-star welcome in Australia this morning.

Harry arrived in the capital city of Canberra for his final active military deployment - a month-long attachment to the Australian army - and was greeted by hordes of well-wishers, who urged him to stay in Australia and suggested he marry a “crocodile handler”.

Harry shook hands and chatted with hundreds of cheering fans outside Australia's national war memorial, on what will be his only scheduled public appearance in the country.

He declined a selfie request, telling one member of the crowd, "Seriously, you need to get out of it. I know you're young, but selfies are bad."

One set of fans made sure the prince felt welcome with a large home-made sign reading 'Red Heads Rule'.

In a sombre moment, Harry placed a remembrance poppy at the Roll of Honour during his visit to the Australian War Memorial.

During his secondment to the Australian Defence Force the Prince will undergo training exercises with Australia’s elite forces and take part in remote bushland patrols with Aboriginal reconnaissance troops.
