Robert Downey Jr. Puts an Early End to ‘Avengers’ Interview

Iron Man offended by UK interviewer’s questions about the past.

U.K. news presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy has been quietly developing a reputation for ruffling the feathers of celebrities. In 2013, Quentin Tarantino walked out on him after the director refused to connect the violence in his Django Unchained to the then-recent Sandy Hook massacre. In 2014, he had the most joyously uncomfortable interview with actor/director Richard Ayoade, who proclaimed at the end, "Don't thank me. I've done nothing for you."

Now, it's 2015 and Guru-Murthy has done it again, prompting Avengers: Age of Ultron star Robert Downey Jr. to end his interview early. Starting out with standard questions on the upcoming superhero blockbuster, Guru-Murthy hit Iron Man with inquiries about his past.

At first, Downey was visibly uncomfortable but played along. "Are we promoting a movie?" he asked before clarifying a quote of his from a 2008 New York Times interview. By the time Guru-Murthy asks about Downey's well-documented battles with drug addiction and prison time—complete with the zoom in for peak poignancy—it's clear that they're not.
