The most anticipated panel at this year’s edition of San Diego Comic-Con was undoubtedly the Disney/Lucasfilm one, where three of the makers of the upcoming sequel Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the seventh installment in the Star Wars saga, were scheduled to be in attendance. They were: director J.J. Abrams, screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, and executive producer Kathleen Kennedy.

But fans were gifted to the weekend’s biggest surprise when most of the cast of the film appeared alongside them, including original stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, as well as newbies John Boyega and Daisy Ridley.

The gang debuted a making-of featurette of Star Wars: The Force Awakens that features a treasure trove of new material, including new creatures, new ships and sets, scenes of the cast and crew filming, and Simon Pegg—a.k.a. Scotty from Abrams’ Star Trek films—as an unnamed alien.

“I burn for Star Wars,” says a sweating Pegg in the clip.

“Real sets. Practical effects. You’ve been here, but you don’t know this story,” adds Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker. “Nothing’s changed—I mean everything’s changed, but nothing’s changed. That’s the way you want it to be, really. To see the way that technology has evolved, and yet keeping one foot in the pre-digital world.” You can watch the new SDCC footage here:
