Earlier this week, the rapper Meek Mill unleashed a series of tweets that sought to expose the much more famous rapper Drake as a fraud. You see, the two had recently collaborated on the Meek Mill single “R.I.C.O.,” and Meek seemed a bit salty that Drake hadn’t promoted the tune on his social media, so he accused him of using a ghostwriter on the tune and faking his raps:
In a tweet that’s since been deleted, Rick Ross took time out of his busy schedule of dealing with 50 Cent’s trolling and allegedly pistol-whipping the help to side with Drizzy, while Chris Brown clowned his longtime nemesis with a meme posted to Instagram (that’s also been deleted). Other rap world luminaries weighed in as well, including longtime Drake collaborator Noah “40” Shebib, who rose to his man’s defense, and DJ Funkmaster Flex, who’s apparently lost his mind. Even Meek Mill apologized onstage to his current girlfriend—and longtime Drake pal and rumored paramour—Nicki Minaj:
But one voice that was very silent during this whole beef was Drake. Until now.
On Saturday, the Canadian rapper unleashed a diss track on Beats 1 radio aimed at Meek Mill—and his unbridled accusations—called “Charged Up.”
The song addresses the ghostwriting allegations made by Meek, and while it doesn’t address him by name, it’s undoubtedly aimed at him:
“I did some charity today for the kids / But I’m used to it cause all y’all charity cases / All y’all stare in my face and hope you could be to replace me / Snitchin’ on us without no interrogation / I stay silent ’cause we at war and I’m very patient,” raps Drake.
“Charged Up” mostly consists of Drake freestyling over a subdued beat, with its chorus consisting of him yelling, “I’m charged up!” “Wow, I’m honored that you think this is staged / I’m flattered man, in fact I’m amazed / The perfect start to the summer man, this shit is a doozy / This shit is twistin’ the movie, but don’t jump to any conclusions / You boys aren’t getting’ any of your feelins on me / You should embrace it this could be one of our realest moments / OK, the flow’s startin’ to feel familiar, don’t it? / Must I remind you that Jimmy got twenty million on it,” he says.“I seen it all comin’ I knew they would push a button / Easter egg huntin’, they gotta look for somethin’ / I’m done doin’ favors for people / ’Cause it ain’t like I need the money I make off a feature / I see you niggas havin’ trouble goin’ gold / Turnin’ into some so-and-so’s that no one knows.”
Later on, Drake muses on how silly Meek Mill’s trifling allegations are in light of the harm being inflicted on unarmed black men by police: “Cops are killin’ people with they arms up / But your main focus is tryin’ to harm us?”

Saturday night, Meek Mill responded to the diss track, calling it "baby lotion soft" while acknowledging Drake’s pen.
