Very few things have been as surreal as the first Republican presidential debate on Fox News a couple weeks back. Between mass meme-launching and Trump “making America great”—and more misogynistic—it was at its best a comedy and at worst a terrifying look at the people wielding power in our nation. It was so bizarre, in fact, that it’s hard to believe even the subversive re-edit geniuses at YouTube’s Bad Lip Reading channel could take it to another level.
In the end, it all comes across a little crass, juvenile, and silly. The actual debate, that is. So the fact that Bad Lip Reading’s take registers about the same shouldn’t surprise anyone, though it’s worth sitting through just to watch Rand Paul saying “genital warts,” Trump with indigestion, and Scott Walker’s Howdy Doody hick rap flow. Also, bonus points to whomever in their camp came up with the term “pepper spray tan.”
