Spare, sunny, and wistfully dreamy, Silversun Pickups’ “Circadian Rhythm (Last Dance),” the latest single from their forthcoming record, Better Nature, is the sort of ethereal rock that is perfect for lazy, late-summer days that fade into a crisp evening’s nostalgia. The band’s first album in three years, Better Nature is a clearly realized vision of rocking guitar, deep musical landscapes, and fluid style.

It’s their second project with producer Jacknife Lee, whose credits also include U2 and Crystal Castles. This familiarity lent itself to a more openly creative experience.

“It just moves in a way that’s so quick and easy,” singer/guitarist Brian Aubert notes. “You have the same discussions and the same battles, but you’re friendly, you’re closer than you were before. You don’t have to explain everything, because they know.”

The end result, Aubert says, is something special.

“This album is like its own quantum universe, it’s kind of unstable,” he says, adding, “I’ll tell you something that makes me a little nervous. This record, I like it. Usually I’m like, ‘Well, we tried!’ But this one, it’s weird—we’re all digging on it.”

You can listen to Aubert discuss this track below.

Better Nature is out September 25 on the band’s own label, New Machine Recordings. Preorder here, or on iTunes for two instant downloads.
