Usually when you think of a giant mysterious beast lurking in the forest, images of a towering ape-like Bigfoot come to mind. But in the lush vegetation surrounding the central New Hampshire hamlet of Bow, there have been sightings of another sort of bizarre creature: a massive, shaggy flightless bird. And not just sightings—now, thanks to a little Yankee ingenuity, a local father and son team have managed to capture the 5-foot-tall creature.

Using a large net, the duo took down the creature, who was, by all accounts, pretty friendly actually, despite trying to bite the son when he tried to grapple it. Emus, native to Australia, are among the largest birds in the world, and thus it took several people to wrangle the fella into a waiting vehicle and deposit him at a local animal sanctuary. Despite widespread press coverage, no one has come forward to claim the non-indigenous beast, though they’re fairly common on farms.
