On Friday morning, the indomitable ladies of The View came out to their gossip Situation Room to Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood,” a vengeful anthem that the pop diva swears isn’t about Katy Perry (but totally is). It was a fitting ditty, of course, since the gals would soon be joined by the conservative commentator Ann Coulter, an out promosexual whose political views couldn’t be further from their own.
Later, when discussing Koko the Gorilla, the gals accidentally threw to a close-up photo of GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.Coulter came on to promote her book, Adios, America! which Joy Behar jokingly referred to as “the perfect stocking-stuffer,” before launching into Trump.
“It’ll be fantastic,” Coulter said of a possible Trump nomination, “and I think he’s exposing really both parties and how much control the donors have. He’s saying things that people have been dying for someone to say but they won’t because their donors, in the case of immigration, want the cheap labor.” “It’s Donald Trump and the American people against the political class and the donor class,” she added.
Co-host Ana Navarro then took Coulter to task for statements she made at CPAC in 2013—which Navarro attended—where, according to Navarro, the conservative firebrand claimed to only want a president who was a governor or senator of a big state, and who’d never been divorced. It apparently suited her agenda at the time, but now, she says she’s seen the light, and the twice-divorced Trump is it.
“Donald Trump—he’s the one exception to this rule. I also said we shouldn’t be run by divorcees, and I’m altering it for Donald Trump, but don’t expect me to go along with it going forward,” she added. “I love his hair… Reagan, Romney, Trump, the only men whose lives will be made immeasurably worse by running, and by winning [the presidency].”The subhead for Coulter’s book is The Left’s Plan to Turn Our Country Into a Third World Hellhole, so yes, it’s very anti-immigration, which explains why she’s so fond of the most xenophobic candidate, and also why Navarro got so riled up.
Coulter, as is her wont, categorized the majority of immigrants as “cheap labor” and “cheap maids” for rich liberals who then “strut around like they’re Martin Luther King,” while saying that our social programs are only “for the American poor.”
Then Raven-Symone went in, asking why the noted anti-Semite’s built her entire reputation on mudslinging and saying nasty things about various people. The political commentator then deflected, and brought up Symone’s recent controversy where she said she wouldn’t hire people for jobs if they had some of the names typically used in black America. “I am not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea,” Symone had announced, to a horrified look from Whoopi Goldberg.
“Well, I’m at least talking about policy,” she said. “You have a position on what people’s names should be! I mean, Watermelondrea. I mean, you’ll insult people for their names, I’m talking about a government policy that affects all Americans, and immigrants, and the people living her. And it’s harming our country. So you don’t follow it.”
Symone was stunned to silence. The embattled Coulter then cited a (wrong) study touted by intolerant conservatives stating that we’ve reached an all-time high of 42 million immigrants in America, when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has long claimed that immigration hit a high of 12 million back in 2007, and has since declined to around 10 to under 12 million.
Guest host Padma Lakshmi, since her mother was an immigrant medical professional who came to America, and didn’t fall in with Coulter’s rank assumption that nearly all immigrants in America who are women are “maids” or on welfare, asking whether she only wants rich immigrants to come to America.
“We need a little time to assimilate the [immigrants] already here, and yeah, set up a system where we get immigrants like your mother, and not…”“…We have to go, I’m sorry to cut you off,” Behar interjected, apparently having heard enough of Coulter’s hate speech.
And that was that. ’Twas a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
