ORLANDO — Ben Carson stumbled Friday evening while responding to a question about how he would respond to the terror attacks in Paris if he were president. Carson said he would employ “things that they don’t know about resources” against terrorists, but struggled to specify what an American response under his leadership might look like.
“I would be working with our allies, using every resource known to man: in terms of economic resources, in terms of covert resources… military resources… things-that-they-don’t-know-about resources… not to contain them, but to eliminate them, before they eliminate us,” Carson told reporters at the Sunshine Summit, a gathering of Republican leaders.
Carson has been tripped up by foreign policy questions before. At the Republican presidential debates earlier this week, the doctor suggested that there were Chinese troops in Syria, even though there is no evidence that this is the case. The doctor, known for his calm and quiet demeanor, was asked whether he had the personality to respond to terrorist attack if president.
