The real Donald Trump may have been uncharacteristically gracious in his Iowa concession speech this week, but when Jimmy Fallon brought back his impression of the candidate last night he was emphasizing the benefits of a second place finish.
“The people of Iowa have wisely named me the winner and champion of second place,” he said, using the old childhood saying, “First is the worst, second is the best, third is the one with the hairy chest,” to explain away his loss.
In Trump’s estimation, “two is bigger than one” and “one plus one is two” so, basically, he “won twice.”
“From now on, when you think of Donald Trump, I want you to think ‘huge number two,’” he said. Easy joke? Sure. But what else is new for the man who is still expected to win in New Hampshire?
