Bunning Endorses Tea Party Favorite

KENTUCKY POLITICS

Over Mitch McConnell’s choice.

Mitch McConnell (R-KY) certainly isn’t popular with Democrats, or with his own colleagues. After fighting with Dems on the financial regulatory-reform bill, McConnell’s pick to replace Sen. Jim Bunning was dealt a blow when Bunning announced his support for conservative Republican Rand Paul over McConnell's choice, Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson. Bunning says Paul will "say no to bailouts, stop the government takeover of our economy, end wasteful spending, and bring down our national debt." Bunning praised Paul, a favorite among Tea Partiers and son of Ron Paul, for his traditional values and for his belief in "the rights of the unborn." The endorsement isn’t too surprising: It may be his way of getting back at the GOP establishment, whom he has accused of attempting to derail his fundraising efforts.
