Alireza Pahlavi, a former prince of Iran, killed himself at his home in Boston on Monday night. Pahlavi was the youngest son of the late shah of Iran. "Like millions of young Iranians, he too was deeply disturbed by all the ills fallen upon his beloved homeland, as well as carrying the burden of losing a father and a sister in his young life,” his brother said in a statement. The statement said the 44-year-old Pahlavi “struggled for years to overcome his sorrow.” He moved to the United States with his family after the 1979 revolution. His sister, who was also described as "depressed," was found dead from drugs in a London hotel room in 2001.
