Boehner: Obama Has Spending 'Illness'

Metaphors

Says new House plans to cure it.

Never one to mince words, new House speaker John Boehner (R-OH) wrapped up a Republican event in Baltimore by likening government spending to a disease. "Washington has an illness," Boehner said, "The illness is spending. The debt is a symptom of that illness. The American people want it cured." Boehner blamed the Obama administration with infecting the country, citing Democrats' "job-killing spending spree." He made it clear to Republican legislators that they are to demand a steep cut in spending in exchange for voting to raise the debt ceiling, something they likely won't be able to avoid in the next couple of weeks.
