The Daily Beast’s John Avlon was honored Saturday by the National Society for Newspaper Columnists for his coverage of the Tea Party. The 34-year-old organization gave top honors for online columnists in publications with over 100,000 monthly unique viewers to Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times, with Avlon finishing second and Politics Daily’s Mary Curtis coming in third. In their recognition of Avlon, the NSNC said the Wingnuts author “has managed to find fresh stories and unique things to say in this crowded news topic. While he brings a reporter's sensibility to his interviews and research, he infuses his accounts with witty judgments that contribute a strong, unapologetic perspective." The NSNC also honored Ebert with the Ernie Pyle Lifetime Achievement Award Saturday night.
