Rupert Murdoch has finally released a statement in response to the widening phone-hacking scandal at his News of the World. The British tabloid has been accused of hacking into the phones of victims of the July 2005 London bombings and their families through private investigators and paying off police. Murdoch, who owns the publication, called the allegations "deplorable and unacceptable," but backed the paper’s embattled executive Rebekah Brooks. “I have made clear that our company must fully and proactively cooperate with the police in all investigations, and that is exactly what News International has been doing and will continue to do under Rebekah Brooks' leadership,” he said.
