Polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs has been sentenced to life in prison for having sex with underage girls. Last week he was convicted for two plural marriages with girls between the ages of 12 to 15. During the sentencing phase of the trial, prosecutors said Jeffs took a total of 78 plural wives, including 12 whom he married at the age of 15 or younger. In closing statements, a prosecutor said that Jeffs perverted religion for his own ends. Jurors deliberated for only 30 minutes. Jeffs will serve life in prison for aggravated sexual assault of a child and 20 years for sexual assault of a child, and he must also pay a $10,000 fine.
