New York City suffered its wettest day in history Sunday, when eight inches of rainfall deluged the city. The 7.7 inches measured at Kennedy airport is the most since the National Weather Service began keeping track 116 years ago, besting the previous record of 6.3 inches in 1984. On average, New York sees four inches of rain in all of August, meaning the city endured two months of rain in a single day Sunday. It’s not letting up, either: Rainfall is expected to continue until 9 p.m. Monday.
