Rumsfeld Cancels N.Y. Times Subscription

OPINIONS

Due to Paul Krugman’s 9/11 column.

Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld announced Monday that he canceled his subscription to The New York Times after reading Paul Krugman’s column, which called the anniversary of Sept. 11 “an occasion for shame.” “After reading Krugman’s repugnant piece on 9/11, I canceled my subscription to the New York Times this AM,” Rumsfeld tweeted. In his column, Krugman wrote, “The atrocity should have been a unifying event, but instead it became a wedge issue. The memory of 9/11 has been irrevocably poisoned; it has become an occasion for shame. And in its heart, the nation knows it.” Krugman dismissed the criticism, saying “I wasn’t saying anything in that column that I didn’t say in 2002.”
