The leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia, or FARC, has been killed. Guillermo Saenz Vargas, also known as Alfonso Cano, was killed in a fight with Colombian security forces after the military bombed his compound Suarez in the country's mountainous southwest. “The death of Alfonso Cano, the No. 1 commander of the FARC, has been confirmed,” President Juan Manuel Santos said in a televised address. “It is the biggest blow against the FARC in all its history.” It's unlikely, however, that the death will spell the end of FARC, which still has about 9,000 fighters and plenty of money from its cocaine trade.
