Report: Paterno to Exit Penn State

Joe Paterno’s involvement in a sordid sex-abuse scandal will ultimately bring his 46-season career as Penn State’s head football coach to an end, The New York Times reports. Jerry Sandusky served under Paterno as a defensive coordinator, during which time he was believed to have been sexually abusing several young boys. Paterno knew of one boy’s claim that Sandusky had assaulted him in 2002 and failed to inform police—a choice for which he has been heavily criticized. Paterno has not been charged—unlike two top Penn State officials who did the same thing—but his failure to report a sexual assault to authorities has lost him the support of many university board members, initiating his inevitable departure. When Paterno’s tenure will end exactly is unclear.
