A United Nations investigation on Monday concluded that Syria tortured and killed hundreds of children—at least 256—and committed crimes against humanity. The 39-page report was prepared by an independent panel for the U.N. Human Rights Council. A 2-year-old girl was reportedly shot to death so she wouldn’t grow up to be a demonstrator. “Torture was applied equally to adults and children,” the report said. “Numerous testimonies indicated that boys were subjected to sexual torture in places of detention in front of adult men.” “We have a very solid body of evidence,” said the panel’s chairman, Brazilian professor Paulo Sergio Pinheiro.
