Euro leaders will head to Brussels Friday to try to strike a deal to save the euro. French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet to design a joint proposal. The deal, which is expected to have several parts, will aim to protect Italy and Spain and rework how the euro is managed. Sunday, Italy’s Prime Minister Mario Monti announced a €30 billion austerity bill that will spike taxes and raise the age for pensions. Italian Welfare Minister Elsa Fornero cried when announcing the pension cuts that will hurt retired people.
